A Missionary Journey to the Philippines
Crossroads Baptist Church Celebrates Three
Years!
Dear Praying Friends,
God gave us a great anniversary celebration.
I want to thank everyone for praying. Gods hand was
evident as our anniversary festivities were under way. I trust
this report will be an encouragement to all of you as you
see what has happened here. To God Be the Glory!
Weather Problems
A major typhoon headed our way as we started the anniversary
week. By Tuesday the storm was moving in and tremendous flooding
was being reported throughout the Philippines. We began to
wonder what affect the weather might have on the anniversary.
Bro. Walters and his family landed safely on Tuesday evening
in a torrential downpour. The rain continued steadily until
Friday morning and then rained sporadically throughout the
weekend. By the grace of God, nothing was cancelled due to
the weather and God gave us a great anniversary.
Anniversary Parade
We always like to have a parade on the Friday morning of the
anniversary. It is a wonderful time for our people and a great
way to pass out thousands of tracts. This year, however, there
was some special testing scheduled and none of our young people
were going to be excused from school. The weather complicated
the problem as well, and we were beginning to consider canceling
the parade.
By Thursday, the weather was so bad that all
the schools were cancelled for the week. The young people
were happy and saying that God had cancelled school just for
them. The parade was scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. Would
you believe it stopped raining and the sun came out at 8:45!
Everyone was excited as we roamed through the city for 3 hours
announcing the anniversary and distributing over 10,000 gospel
tracts. It was a miracle. And just as we arrived back to the
church the rain started again.
Childrens Services
Last year we had over 1,700 children in one big service at
the civic center. This year we decided to break it down and
have 22 smaller services throughout the city. The rain was
a major consideration once again, but as the reports came
in, not one service was cancelled by the rain. We praise God
for 3,899 children and parents who attended these services.
Our workers did a wonderful job and hundreds were saved.
Adult Service
We rented an air-conditioned building for the main service.
The mayor came and greeted the people. Our youth choir and
all singing groups had practiced many hours and did a great
job. Mrs. Walters sang before Pastor Walters preached the
Gospel. There were 364 first time adult visitors. The attendance
in the adult service was 1,167 which gave us a grand total
of 5,056 for the three year anniversary. There were hundreds
saved in this service as well. Praise God from Whom All Blessings
Flow!
Victory Service
On Sunday evening we celebrated the victory back at the church.
It was jammed packed and there were as many outside as there
were inside. We sang and praised God. Pastor Walters preached
once again. We sang our theme song Faith is the Victory,
had some refreshments, and topped it off by breaking our victory
piñatas which were filled with chocolate candy. What
a great day!
I know that missions is a team effort. The
great day we had here was the result of the faithfulness,
prayers, and support of so many. Only in Heaven will everyone
who had a part be justly rewarded. Until then, I can only
say THANK YOU! May God continue to bless all of you!
