"As cold waters to a thirsty soul,
so is good news from a far country."

Greetings Everyone! And Happy New Year! We trust
that 2005 was a good year for you and pray that 2006 will
a blessed year as well. We brought in the new year here in
Urdaneta City. The Filipinos bring in the new year with reckless
abandonment. You see, fireworks are legal here. And a few
days before the new year, they are for sale everywhere. Many
are just gun powder wrapped in brown paper with a wick. We
call them triangles, and they are LOUD! Anyway, it all starts
a few minutes before the new year comes. And then about 15
or 20 minutes before midnight, the entire country breaks into
a display of chaotic celebration. We were on the 4th floor
balcony and it is awesome to see the pandemonium in every
direction.
Heidi's 13th Birthday Party was a real
success. We rented a private room with a private pool
about 45 minutes from here in a place called San Fabian.
The room was good for 8, so Barb stayed with Heidi and
she invited 6 of her friends. The girls swam late in
the evening and then several hours the next day. The
Filipinas had a reddish glow, and the white girls turned
bright red. I dropped them off at 9 in the evening and
picked them up 24 hours later. I could not believe how
burnt they were. There are more pictures at a page especially
for Heidi's 13th Birthday Party.

We had a wonderful Christmas this year.
This was our 3rd Christmas in the Philippines. I must
say that I think we missed home a little more this year
than we have in the past. Of course, we celebrate Christmas
in both time zones--Phillipines and USA. So, that means
we can celebrate Christmas for 2 days. Did you know
on the day after Christmas at 5 in the evening here,
it is still Christmas in Hawaii! Some day I think it
would be nice to have Christmas dinner during every
time zone. Now, that's a feast!

I have constructed a page called Christmas 2005 where you can see some pictures
of our Christmas here. I hope you can take the the time
to visit the page. We want to say thank you once again
to all of you who thought of us during the holidays.
Your cards, E Cards, Emails, Phone Calls and gifts make
it very special. Thank you!

Barb and I celebrated our 14th anniversary
on December 28. When we came to the Philippines I started
buying Barb a couple of these fiber optic Christmas
houses for Christmas and our anniversary. This is some
of her collection. Would you believe I was in Manila
and I could not find them anywhere? I asked God to help
me and in just a little while I met a man named Mark
who just happened to be a purchasing agent for the 21
SM Malls in the Philippines. Yes, he just happened to
be the guy who buys the houses for Christmas season.
He took me downstairs and brought many houses out of
the warehouse. And gave me a big discount. Praise the
Lord! God helped me to make it special for Barb this
year.

Well, 2006 is underway. I just can't believe how quickly
the holidays came and went. We are back in our regular routine
now. Heidi is back in school and the staff is back at work.
We are excited about what the Lord has in store for us in
2006. As of now, we are planning to be back in the States
by the first week of July. We do not know the exact plans
as of yet, but we want to be at the wedding of Barb's sister,
Grace. Hopefully, we will get to see many of you then.
We miss you all and love you very much! God Bless You and
Happy New Year!
