A Missionary Journey to the Philippines
December 19, 2006
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
It is hard to believe that the Holidays are
upon us again. God gave us a wonderful year in 2006 and we
are looking forward to 2007. We have chosen a new motto for
our ministry during the next few months, Working for
Heaven in 2007 We take a lot of momentum into the new
year and we are expecting to see God use the ministry here
in a wonderful way. Heres some highlights of whats
going on as we head into the new year.
Happy Birthday Offering
In the last prayer letter, we asked you to pray about our
facility decisions. We decided to take our HBJ this year and
use it, once again, to make improvements to our building.
I think we can construct a small balcony on both sides of
our building that could seat about 120 more people. The walking
space will be a little less than 5 feet, but we can reserve
it for the teenagers and young people. The complicated issue
will be the heat. The building is already very hot and will
be less than tolerable if we add that many people. I have
located some used air conditioners to try and solve the problem.
I challenged our people to give sacrificially toward this
project. We set a goal of 50,000 pesos ($1,000.00.) This is
a tremendous challenge, but I taught them that God would bless
them for giving. A few days later I spoke with the pastor
of our home church and they decided to match the gifts of
the Filipinos here for the building improvement project. Our
people got excited and reached the goal! It is so encouraging
to see people who have been told all their lives that they
are doomed to poverty digging deep and trusting the Lord sacrificially.
Visiting Families from Our Home Church
There are many Filipinos in Virginia Beach and we started
a Filipino ministry about three years ago. One young man who
has been saved there is named Joel. His family lives in Bulacan
about three hours south of us. He called me because there
was a death in the family and asked me to travel there and
share the gospel. We arrived at his familys house about
two in the afternoon and soon learned they were all gathered
at the cemetery for the burial of a cousin. We arrived at
the cemetery just as they were sealing the grave and almost
everyone was still there. We shared the gospel and 53 of Joels
family received the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour.
The Darling Family are also members of ECBC who have family
in Ilocos Sur about six hours north of us. We arranged a visit
with them just a few weeks ago. The whole family gathered
to greet us and had a big meal prepared. After we had our
lunch, I shared the gospel with the adults and one of my staff
took the children. During the next hour, 23 of Mrs. Darlings
family were saved. We praise God for these opportunities.
Health Concerns
Please pray for the health of our family here. It seems like
we have all had a tough time the last two months. I have been
down twice and Barb has been sick three different times. Especially
pray for Heidi as she has been having stomach pain especially
when she eats. We have been to a specialist several times,
but so far we have found nothing. God led us to a Christian
lady doctor gastrointestinal specialist for children. She
will be conferring with the previous doctor and taking over
Heidis case. We have discussed everything from simple
adolescent issues to more serious problems. Please pray for
Gods guidance and that we can isolate the problem soon.
There is no reason, at this time, to believe it is very serious,
but we do need to figure our whats causing the pain.
Holiday Season
This will be our fourth Christmas in the Philippines. We will
stay here at home for Christmas and New Years Day. We are
thinking of taking a trip to Baguio where the weather is cold
to help with the holiday spirit. We want you all
to know we are thinking of you and praying for you during
this holiday season. We sure do appreciate all the prayers
and support that go into making this ministry possible. Once
again, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Eddie R. Galyean
